Departing from the center of Larnaca, about 40 km to the southwest is the village of Kato Drys, the first “Melissochori (Bee village)” of this route.
The first station is the Bee and Embroidery Museum in the center of the community, which was founded by Iakovos and Elli Korniotis, as gift to the Cypriot soldiers who fought during the Balkan wars. It is housed in a traditional restored 300-year-old house. It includes over 1.000 exhibits and captures the traditional way of the old Cypriot’s life. The exhibition of the Bee and Embroidery Museum is divided into sections and 2 floors. The exhibits portray how the hives work and how honey and other beekeeping products are produced.
There are many beauties hidden in Kato Dry. Taking a walk in the village you will come across churches, fountains, mansions taken from other times, nature trails and old bridges. The visitor can also enjoy a glass of wine at the Christoudia winery, which has been operating in the village since 1992 and is located approximately 3 km from the settlement, in the direction of Vavla village.
